Counselling & Coaching for Adults in Hitchin & London Kings Cross

Therapy

When something doesn't feel quite right,

you don't have to figure it out alone.

Maybe life looks okay from the outside, but inside, things feel harder than they should.

You might be overthinking everything, struggling to switch off or feeling overwhelmed by emotions you don't quite understand.

Perhaps you're finding relationships difficult, struggling to communicate what you need, or noticing that you keep falling into the same patterns.

Maybe your confidence has taken a knock. You're questioning yourself, finding it difficult to know what you want, or constantly putting other people first.

Or perhaps something has happened that has changed things for you — a loss, a difficult experience, a relationship breakdown, a career change or a period of life that has left you feeling unlike yourself.

And sometimes, there isn't one obvious reason.

You just know that something doesn't feel right and you want things to feel different.

Counselling and coaching in Hitchin

You don't need to have it all figured

out before you start therapy.

You don't need a diagnosis.

You don't need to know exactly what you want to talk about.

And you don't need to wait until things feel unbearable.

Sometimes, simply recognising that you don't want to keep feeling the way you do is enough.

Therapy gives you somewhere to slow down, take a breath and pay attention to what's really going on beneath the surface.

Together, we can begin to make sense of your experiences, understand the patterns that may be keeping you stuck and explore what you need to feel differently.

What might bring you to therapy?

There are many different reasons people decide to seek support.

Sometimes there's a particular difficulty you want help with. Other times, several things have started to feel tangled together.

Counselling session conversation

Anxiety & overwhelm

Your mind feels constantly busy. You overthink conversations, decisions or what other people might think. You find it difficult to switch off, relax or feel present.

Therapy can give you space to understand what's driving your anxiety and develop a different relationship with your thoughts, feelings and yourself.

Low self-esteem & self-worth

You might struggle to believe in yourself, compare yourself to others or feel like you're never quite good enough.

Perhaps you know rationally that you have a lot to offer, but don't always feel that way.

We can explore where those beliefs have come from and begin to build a kinder, more secure relationship with yourself.

Relationships & communication

Relationships can bring up some of our deepest insecurities.

You may find yourself struggling with conflict, holding back what you really think, over-giving, feeling unheard or repeating relationship patterns that leave you unhappy.

Therapy can help you understand what is happening within your relationships and become more confident in communicating your thoughts, feelings and needs.

Boundaries & people-pleasing

Perhaps saying no feels uncomfortable.

You automatically put other people first, worry about disappointing them or feel guilty when you prioritise yourself.

You may not even be sure what your own needs are anymore.

We can explore where these patterns come from and what healthier, more respectful boundaries could look like for you.

Depression & low mood

Sometimes life can feel heavy.

You may feel exhausted, disconnected, unmotivated or unable to enjoy the things you normally would.

Therapy offers a space to talk honestly about how you're feeling and begin to understand what might be happening beneath the surface.

Bereavement & loss

Loss can change so much more than we expect.

Whether you've lost someone, a relationship, a role or something that was an important part of your life, therapy can give you somewhere to process what has happened and find your way through what comes next.

Trauma & difficult experiences

Some experiences stay with us long after they have happened.

You may find yourself reacting in ways you don't understand, feeling on edge, disconnected or overwhelmed, or noticing that something from your past continues to affect your relationships and how you see yourself.

As a trauma-informed counsellor, I can offer a space to explore these experiences gently and at a pace that feels manageable for you.

Stress & life transitions

Sometimes it's the accumulation of everything that becomes too much.

Work, relationships, family, career changes, becoming a parent, leaving something behind or simply reaching a point where the way you've been living no longer feels right.

Therapy is a place for you to be held. To slow things down, make sense of where you are and work out what you need next.

You don't have to arrive with a label

You may recognise yourself in one of the areas above.

You may recognise yourself in several.

Or you may not recognise yourself in any of them.

That's okay.

Life doesn't always fit neatly into

categories.

You might simply feel stuck, lost, overwhelmed, disconnected or unhappy without knowing exactly why.

We can start there.

What can change?

Therapy isn't about fixing you.

It's about understanding and supporting you.

Through our work together, you can begin to understand why you think, feel and respond in the ways you do, rather than judging yourself for them.

You may begin to:

• understand yourself with greater compassion

• recognise patterns that keep repeating

• trust your own thoughts, feelings and decisions

• feel more comfortable expressing what you need

• build healthier boundaries

• feel more confident in your relationships

• develop a stronger sense of self-worth

• process experiences that have been difficult to make sense of

• feel less overwhelmed by your thoughts and emotions

• find clarity and make choices that feel more aligned with who you are

Therapy can help you feel more connected to yourself, more able to trust your own experience and more confident in creating a life that feels right for you.

What is therapy
What is therapy

Starting therapy

I know that reaching out for therapy can feel daunting, particularly if you've never done it before.

You might wonder what you'll say, whether you'll feel comfortable talking to someone you don't know or whether therapy will actually help.

That's why I offer a free 20-minute telephone consultation before you decide whether you'd like to begin.

It's simply a chance for us to meet and for you to tell me a little about what's bringing you to therapy, ask any questions you have and get a sense of whether I might be the right therapist for you.

There's no pressure to commit.

Finding the right therapist matters, and sometimes you only know whether something feels right by having a conversation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

You don't need to be in crisis or have a specific diagnosis to benefit from therapy.

If something in your life isn't feeling the way you'd like it to, or you feel stuck and want support to understand what's happening, that's enough reason to explore whether therapy could help.

What if I don't know what I want to talk about?

That's completely okay.

You don't need to arrive with a list of problems or know exactly where to begin. We can start with whatever feels most present for you and work things out together.

How long will I need to have therapy?

There isn't a set number of sessions. Everyone is different, and the length of therapy depends on what you're coming with and what you hope to achieve.

I work on an open-ended basis, as this gives us time to build trust and safely explore what's going on for you. We'll regularly reflect on how things are going and whether the work continues to feel helpful for you.

Do you offer face-to-face therapy?

Yes. I offer face-to-face counselling in King's Cross and Hitchin, as well as online therapy.

Can therapy help with relationship problems?

Yes. We can explore relationship issues, patterns, communication, conflict, boundaries, people-pleasing, self-worth and difficulties within your current or past relationships.

If you're looking for individual therapy to help you understand difficulties within your relationship, we can talk about what you're experiencing during your initial consultation.

Can therapy help with low self-esteem and self-worth?

Absolutely. We can explore the experiences and beliefs that have shaped how you see yourself and work towards developing a more secure and compassionate relationship with yourself.

I think I need help but I'm not sure what kind. What should I do?

That's exactly what the free consultation is for.

You don't need to know whether you need anxiety counselling, trauma therapy, relationship support or something else before you get in touch.

Tell me what's going on, and we can work it out together.

Sessions & fees

I offer 50-minute individual therapy sessions, usually weekly, both online and face-to-face.
